Jes BriedenAs I sit here and listen to seven years worth of Vocal Trance, the voice of one of the pioneer vocalists of our Electronic music generation embraces each and every one of these legendary tracks.
A voice that will be remembered and recognized, admired and adored for years to come. The voice behind Motorcycle’s chart topping hit As The Rush Comes, Deepsky’s Ghost, Solar Stone’s Like A Waterfall, Tiesto’s Everything, her solo hits Heaven, Imagination and many many more and of course, the voice behind numerous In Search of Sunrise tracks that made your heart rip through your chest only to smack you in the face and say “Holy Sh*t!”
A singer, songwriter, producer, and earth shattering performer.
JES is the name and her voice is her game.
Let’s stop beating around the bush and get straight to the yard, THCDJ got an exclusive with her so sit back and enjoy because we sure did (so much that objects were thrown all over the place in excitement).

So, the past few years have been quite a ride for you huh? What are your 3 most memorable experiences as Jes the Queen of Roctronica?

Yes they have been so wonderful and I am working hard to keep it going! There have been so many and I switch my memories around from time to time. Some definitely stand out. The first, would have to be the time when I sang on Top of the Pops in the UK. I was on with Maroon Five and Beyonce! TV is fun to do and so different because there is more direction, so it was challenging and fun. I was nervous for sure! Also, the very first time I performed with Tiesto at The Heineken Hall in Amsterdam was amazing. I was so excited. I found a flyer on the street for an In Search of Sunrise release party and wrote to him. I had a song called Like a Waterfall on In Search of Sunrise 4 and I went and sang that with him. And then, recently I had the opportunity to sing at the Olympics in Beijing. I wrote a song called Be It All for the WE8 Coca Cola project. The opportunity came and it was just surreal it all happened at the last minute and it was quite an experience I wont forget.

As a DJ I’ve been privileged enough to grace my audience with your angelic voice and witness remarkable connections to your songs, how does it feel to perform in front of international crowds and witness people of all walks of life completely fall into your music?

It is a very humbling experience. Something I cherish and always so grateful for being able to connect to people from all over the world in different cultures. Places where we don’t speak the same language but still understand each other and communicate through the universal language of music. I love to record and write, but my favorite thing to do is perform. I feel more myself and connected to everything. It’s something I never want to stop doing.

When your pen hits the paper, where do you draw your inspiration from?

I never know what is going to come out. I find it’s always a challenge. Writing many songs makes it even harder for me, because you don’t want to repeat yourself and you’re constantly looking to out do yourself! I like to listen to other music for inspiration, watch live performances, movies, and read. I will take ideas from anywhere they present themselves. Traveling also helps to fill my mind with ideas and feelings. Even listening to my friends talk :) gives me great stories and ideas.

Modesty aside, where would you like to see yourself in 10 years?

I want to be on my 10th record :) and doing huge stadium shows as the headliner with my band! I would love to be producing and writing for other artists as well.

Your talent has gotten you to work with the biggest names in the EDM industry, which DJ/Producer did you like working with the most and why?

Each DJ/Producer has something different they bring to the table. So it’s always hard to say who is my favorite. My favorites are the people that are fun to work with and are on the same wavelength. I work with many different people, but the best things are created when you have a great working bond and friendship with. Sometimes, I am not even in the studio with them and have to work over the Internet but we just vibe together. I loved working with Tiesto in the studio in Holland and also back and forth on the Internet. Also, I had the opportunity to be with BT at his studio and to write with him and he is one special creative person! I am very excited about what we did together.

You’ve traveled across the world spreading your vocal love to the masses, where was your favorite place to perform?

I’ve been to some pretty special places. I played in the jungles of Columbia and also in the ancient city of Petra. I ask myself what was my favorite place, pick one …and I just can’t pick one. They all out do each other!

If you could pick one artist dead or alive to collaborate with for one song, who would it be and why?

Jimmy Hendrix because have you ever heard him play guitar! I used to live for a year on a Caribbean island and sang with the local band there. At the time I wasn’t familiar (yes) with so many of Jimmy’s songs but this band used to play covers of Hey Joe and Angel and I used to make up my own songs over these covers.  In the end, I found out who it was and ever since, he is one of my idols and wish I could get the chance to jam and sing with him. That whole time in music was amazing and I still love singing Angel :)

I’m no Miss Cleo but my crystal ball headphones are telling me 2009 is going to be a great year for you, can you give us a sneak peak on any upcoming projects or shows in the new year?

I will be starting the New Year out in San Francisco I am going back to China and Australia and Central America. I have been very busy working on my new album. A little more to go! I am also very excited to have songs coming out with BT and Airscape and to have been part of the Dance for life charity CD with a song called “Lost in the Sound”
Other than that I will be working on some more collaborations and doing some new shows with my band.

We here at THCDJ wish Jes all the best in the new year and will be keeping an eye out for her future releases (as should you, you can do it in her Webpage or Myspace page).
