Review: Chaos Restored 2, Mixed and Messed With by Justin Martin on Buzzin’ Fly Records

Submitted by David Abutbul on October 30, 2008 – 7:33 amNo Comment

If you have a minute, I would like to tell you about a journey I’ve recently had. It was a perfectly engineered path through Electronic Dance Music, passing along the way in stops such as Mt. Tech and Progressive Ave. I am not talking about a new physical tour; I am talking about Chaos Restored 2, (Mixed and messed with) by Justin Martin, released on the 27th of October. I’ve just now got my hands and ears on this compilation, and it’s pretty awesome, if I may say.

It starts with one thing, and for me it was expectation, as a DJ, I can’t, though I wish I could, listen to every single release, and when I do get to listen to a new compilation or a single, I get really excited, with this mixed cd, I can say I had high expectations, and I was definitely not let down. Read on, please! Nowadays when I get a mixed cd, it’s usually from big labels like Ministry Of Sound or Anjuna Beats, and you all know, it all sounds the same (sorry commercial fans). This mix tape, doesn’t sound the same, to be precise, it doesn’t sound anywhere near same. With a track list that could easily fit your local club’s dance floor, it is by no means a regular play list, when I mentioned a journey before, I was not joking.

If you decide to take on this ride, know what you are up for; House will be your guide for this set, whether it be covered in minimal vibes, deep pads, techno rides or intelligent progression, this is what I expect to hear when I want a mix cd with music I like, from simplicity to complexity and back again, this set delivers.
Justin Martin will conduct you on an almost 70 minutes ride of pleasurable cycle through his compilation from San Francisco’s scene.
